Newberg School District graduation requirements reflect the need for a rigorous education program that ensures all students every opportunity for a meaningful, productive life, including earning a living wage.
Students must earn 26 credits in the designated subject areas. In addition, students must complete the personalized learning requirements and show proficiency in essential skills. One half (.5) credit is earned for each class successfully taken and passed each semester.

THETransfer Students
Credits previously earned by transfer students shall be matched to NHS graduation requirements as fairly as possible. It is the responsibility of the counselor to make judgements regarding transfer credits. The administration will make the decision when a question arises regarding credits.
Graduation Participation
Only students who have completed all Sate and District graduation requirements for a diploma, modified diploma or certificate of attendance may participate in commencement exercises at Newberg High School. Early graduates completing their requirements in December or March are eligible to participate.
To qualify for participation in graduation exercises, students shall have demonstrated respect for the dignity of the ceremony, school rules, and authority through the days and weeks preceding and culmination in the graduation ceremony. Violations of school rules or engaging in activities that damage the reputation of the school may result in denying the privilege and/or attendance at graduation to any student who has demonstrated a disregard for school rules , authority, or evidenced intent to disrupt the graduation ceremony.
Valedictorian and Salutatorian
The valedictorians will be students with an unweighted GPA of 4.0 or above and earning an Honors Diploma. The salutatorian will be the student with the next highest unweighted GPA and earning an Honors Diploma.
Commencement
Graduation is held the second Friday of June in the stadium at Newberg High School. Students will receive a set number of tickets for gamily and guests to attend. Additional activities relating to commencement include:

All students are required to show proficiency in a variety of college and career skills as a part of their graduation requirements.

- Senior Awards Evening
- Baccalaureate
- Senior Breakfast - held prior to graduation practice
- Graduation Practice - held the morning of graduation following the Senior Breakfast
- Grad Night Party - a drug and alcohol free party organized by senior parents in a secret location that takes place immediately following the graduation ceremony
